Subaru 12V Battery Notes for Jamaica
This guide covers Subaru-specific 12V battery notes. For battery types, terminals and recycling basics, see our general battery guide.
In a Subaru, the 12V battery starts the engine and keeps the control modules stable, including driver-assist systems such as EyeSight where fitted. Heat, slow traffic and salt air can shorten battery life, so have it tested if starting becomes slow or warning lights appear.
Start-Stop Requirements Depend on the Vehicle
Whether a Subaru needs an Enhanced Flooded Battery (EFB) depends on the specific model, model year, engine and market. Some versions of models such as the Forester, XV/Crosstrek and Levorg have Auto Start-Stop and may specify an EFB, with codes such as Q-85 (often listed alongside 115D23L). Other Subarus use a conventional flooded battery. Check the label on your existing battery, the vehicle specifications or your owner’s manual, and do not assume the same battery fits every model.
Fitting a standard battery in a vehicle designed for start-stop may cause warning lights or disable the feature. Hybrid versions such as the e-BOXER also use a 12V battery whose type varies, so confirm it in the owner’s manual.
Sizes and Polarity
JDM Subarus are often listed with JIS-size batteries such as 55D23L or 75D23L with left-positive (L) layouts, while US-market versions are often listed with BCI sizes such as Group 35. JIS and BCI sizes are different standards, so do not treat them as interchangeable without checking dimensions, polarity and post layout.
On rough roads, make sure the battery is securely clamped and the hold-down is in good condition.
Buying and Fitting Tips
Ask the seller about warranty and any applicable trade-in or core credit when you return your old battery. For help with fitting, terminal changes or any registration or reset your vehicle may need, consult a qualified auto electrician or technician.
Fitment note: battery codes and specifications on this page are examples only. Always confirm the correct battery against your existing battery, your vehicle’s specifications or your owner’s manual before buying.
