The Lifeline of Your Nissan: A Guide to 12V Batteries in Jamaica

This guide covers Nissan-specific 12V battery notes. For battery types, terminals and recycling basics, see our general battery guide.

In a modern Nissan, the 12V battery starts the engine and keeps sensitive electronics stable, including the Engine Control Module (ECM), the Intelligent Power Distribution Module (IPDM) and the transmission computers.

Terminals, Sizes and Polarity for Nissan Models

Many compact Nissans, for example the March, Note (petrol), AD Wagon and Latio, are commonly fitted with batteries that have thinner “pencil” posts (JIS B-type), with codes such as NS40ZL, 38B19L or 46B24L. Larger vehicles such as the Sentra, X-Trail, Frontier and NV350 Urvan commonly use thicker standard posts, with sizes such as Group 24F, 35 or D31.

Polarity matters too. Most Japanese-market (JDM) Nissan models use “L” (left-hand positive) batteries, while some US-market models, such as the Maxima or Pathfinder, may specify “R” (right-hand positive). Check your existing battery before buying: the wrong orientation can strain the cables and risks electrical damage. If a battery’s posts differ from the original, ask a qualified auto electrician about adapters or terminal clamps rather than forcing a fit.

EFB, AGM and e-POWER

Nissan models with idle-stop technology, such as the Note DIG-S and the T32 X-Trail, are commonly specified with an Enhanced Flooded Battery (EFB), often with codes such as Q-85 or S-95. The Serena S-Hybrid (C26/C27) is described as using two batteries, a main S-95 starting battery and a smaller M-42 auxiliary unit. Fitting the wrong type can cause charging or system faults, so confirm before replacing.

On e-POWER models the 12V auxiliary battery is typically located in the boot or cabin area and is often reported to be an AGM or EFB type (for example LN1 or LN2) with an external vent port. Keep the vent tube connected, and do not replace it with an unvented battery where a vented one is specified, because gases can accumulate in an enclosed space.

Diesel Models and Cranking Power

For diesel models such as the Caravan and Frontier, cranking power is especially important. Figures of 700 to 850+ CCA have been quoted for heavy-duty use, but confirm the required CCA in your owner’s manual.

Buying Tips

Ask the seller about warranty and any applicable trade-in or core credit when you return your old battery. For help with fitting or terminal changes, consult a qualified auto electrician.

Fitment note: battery codes and specifications on this page are examples only. Always confirm the correct battery against your existing battery, your vehicle’s specifications or your owner’s manual before buying.
